Trip Overview

This 12-day trip will explore my favorite regions in France- the Dordogne, Languedoc, and Provence. We will visit gorgeous gardens in various styles, see art in musuems and in artist's studios, and taste delicious regional treats.

We will begin in Toulouse. You will be picked up at the airport or train station by our transportation service and brought directly to our hotel. You will have the afternoon for rest or exploration, and we will all meet for a delightful Welcome Dinner. From Toulouse, we will travel by private mini-van into the heart of Southern France.

The Dordogne (my favorite region!) will embrace us with its stunning panaramic views, perfect ancient villages, and earthy foods such as truffles, foie gras, and wine. We will be in this region for three days, staying in a villa, and exploring the region. Boat tours, famers markets, and floating gardens await us, as well as a visit to an illustrated prehistoric cave. We will visit some famous wine villages in the Bordeaux region, and sample the delights of this beautiful area.

The Dordogne is our gateway to the ancient and rugged Languedoc-Rousillon, an area filled with mountain-top castles, walled cities, and tiny villages steeped in history. We will be staying four nights in our villa and will spend our days visiting nearby museums and castles, tasting local wines, and floating down the Canal du Midi.

The following five days will be our foray into Provence, a region filled with Roman history, wild nature preserves, and stunning landscapes. Staying in a villa, we will have day trips to visit Van Gogh's room in Arles, the Pope's Palace in Avigonon, and the Roman ruins of Nîmes. We will spend a day out in the Carmague, moving through the flamingo-filled country and seeing herds of wild horses. One day will find us exploring the beaches and calanques (natural coves) of the French Riveria, with an evening in the fabulous Nice!

We will find our way back to Toulouse, where we will have a Farewell Dinner. Our driver will take you back to the airport or train station on your departure day.
